THE ROLE OF SPIRITUALITY IN MODERN MENTAL HEALTH PRACTICES: AN INTEGRATIVE APPROACH

Abstract

This paper examines the integration of spirituality into contemporary mental health treatment paradigms, analyzing both theoretical frameworks and empirical evidence. Despite historical tensions between spiritual practices and clinical psychology, recent decades have witnessed a significant shift toward incorporating spiritual dimensions into holistic treatment approaches. Through a comprehensive review of literature from diverse cultural contexts, this study demonstrates that spiritually-informed interventions can enhance therapeutic outcomes when appropriately integrated into evidence-based practices. The paper concludes with recommendations for ethically incorporating spiritual elements into mental health care while respecting diverse belief systems and maintaining clinical rigor.
